Access

Access during reception opening hours is free of charge and you can come and go as many times as you please with no additional costs. Dependant on your store and for a small fee, we also offer extended access from 7:00am – 8:00pm, 7 days a week, and 24 hours access. Please speak to your store if you would like to set this up.

Absolutely, we love nothing more than showing off our facility. Just pop in during reception opening hours and we'll gladly show you around.

No. We do not allow the use of the storage room for anything other than storing your goods. Attempting to live in your storage room is strictly prohibited and in breach of the terms and conditions of your storage contract.

Yes. Providing you have been given authority by the owner of the goods and they are included in the declared value of goods, they can be stored in your room.

Yes, you can access with the code you provided to set up the App.

Just call into reception and once your ID has been verified, we can remove your lock for you however a new lock will need to be purchased at the same time.

Only persons authorised by you access the unit, remember, for security purposes anyone who approaches store staff for help accessing will be directed back to the account holder for help.

Yes, children are allowed on site accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times.

General

Our storage rooms are purpose built with sizes ranging from a locker to a small warehouse. It's a popular and very cost effective way of storing your possessions or stock for short and long periods of time, as you can select the perfect size for you meaning you will never be paying for unused space. Each room is for individual use so you have your own room which only you can access.

No. Unfortunately pets are not allowed in the facility. Please keep them in your car at all times. Only service dogs are allowed into the facility.

Business Storage

Absolutely, we can supply shelving or you can install your own. Please note, all shelving must be free standing and not fixed to the walls or floor. Please call your store for more information.

Yes, we have a dedicated secure room where we can take receipt and store your parcels until you're ready to collect them.

Yes however you are responsible for any persons you bring onsite and must not leave them unattended at any time.

Discount

Yes. You can prepay for any length of time. Please call your store for more details.

If you find a cheaper price elsewhere just bring the quote into us or forward the email quote to us and we'll beat it. Simple as that.

Yes. We offer a 20% discount when buying any of our packs of 5 boxes.

Yes. We offer you and your friend £25 off your first/next bill. The storer must refer the friend before the enquiry is made. Referred must reside in another household and not be of the same address. Referred must take a 50 sq ft room or larger for a minimum of 2 months. Storer must not have notice to vacate and remain in storage for a minimum of 1 future calendar month.

Facility

Yes, we have customer toilets onsite.

Yes. All our internal storage sites have at least one lift. All lifts are goods and passenger. Please contact your store for more information and individual weight limits.

Yes. Parking is free and subject to availability whilst visiting your storage room. In City & Town centre stores there is a maximum parking of 3 hours. Strictly no overnight parking.

No. We have no waste disposal services, you are responsible for the removal and disposal of your waste.

This is available at some stores, please call and check with your store before arranging any deliveries.

Yes. We do have a limited number of rooms with power. Power will be switched on to those once arranged with your store. We do not allow any power for loud equipment such as saws or music and all equipment must be available for PAT testing once a year. Please call your store for more information.

No. Unfortunately, this is not a service we offer.

Yes. All our internal storage sites are constructed with access for everyone in mind

The majority of our rooms are 8.5 ft however this can vary in certain location at some sites. Lockers are 3ft in height. If you require a specific height then please check with your store.

ID

You are required to provide two forms of ID, one containing your photograph, such as a passport or UK driving licence and a bill or bank statement confirming your current address.

These documents allow us to check:

  • Full name – forenames and surname
  • Signature
  • Date of Birth
  • Full permanent address

You must provide original documents, not photocopies.

List of acceptable photographic personal identification

  • UK (Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Irish) passport or EU/other nationalities passport. Passports of non-EU nationals, containing stamps, a visa or a UK residence permit showing the immigration status of the holder in the UK.
  • UK full driving licence (or provisional photocard with a passport).
  • HM Forces photo ID card (only for currently serving personnel).
  • Student ID cards.

List of acceptable address identification documents

  • Recent utility bill (gas, water, electricity or phone)
  • Local authority tax bill (e.g. council tax)
  • Recent HMRC tax notification (e.g. statement of account)
  • Bank/building society statement
  • Mortgage statement
  • Local council rent card or tenancy agreement
  • DWP benefit statement or notification letter
  • Insurance certificate
  • UK court claim form
  • TV licence
  • Company letterheads/business cards with business address or registration docs

If you cannot provide the correct documents, unfortunately you will be unable to take a storage room with us.

For security reasons we need to verify and keep a record of all active customers at all times.

Insurance & Contents Protection

At Lock It Self Storage the protection of your goods is our number one priority which is why you cannot store without having the appropriate cover for your goods. We would always recommend using our own specialist self storage cover.

Our Self Storage Agreement requires you to either: accept our enhanced liability protection under StoreProtect; Or arrange insurance cover at your own expense for your stated Maximum Reinstatement Value for the duration of storage.

We must understand the total value of all goods stored with us, even if you arrange insurance elsewhere. It is, therefore, a requirement for all customers to declare a suitable Maximum Replacement Value and to ensure it remains adequate for the storage period.

Your Maximum Replacement Value must represent the total current cost of replacing all stored property as new, except the following items where the replacement cost is calculated differently:

  • household linen and clothing, motorcars, motorbikes, boats, caravans, motorhomes and any other motorised vehicle, where the Replacement Value allows for the age, quality, degree of use, existing damage and consequent market value;
  • any goods which cannot be purchased new (such as antiques or works of art, for example), where the replacement value shall be the current market value;
  • documents, where the Replacement Value shall be calculated as the physical cost of replacing the documents and/or cost of reprinting, re-issue and/or reconstitution, but excluding the value of the information contained in the documents.

Length of Stay

With our flexible contracts, you can stay as little or as long as you like. If you’re planning to stay for a long time then why not take advantage of our long term discounts - Just give your store a call to find out more!

Absolutely not, Once you have taken a room with us, that room is yours until you give notice to leave. Our rooms are totally flexible meaning you can move in and out whenever you need to. You can also increase or decrease the size of room whenever you like.

The minimum stay varies by store, please call your store for more details. If you are taking advantage of a discounted rental period you must store for a minimum of that period. For example, if your first month is 50% off, you must stay for the full month after that you’ll just pay for the days you use up to the end date of notice period.

Moving In

You can move in straight away. All you need to do is book and pay for your room online and provide the relevant ID, then you can start using your room immediately.

No. You can take a room in as little as 5 minutes as long as we have availability. However if you are planning ahead, we can reserve a room for you. That way you will have peace of mind that the perfect room choice is available for you when you need it. Whilst we have many rooms, the availability of certain sizes can be limited at busy times.

We will send you links to upload your ID and complete your move in online

Before you can store your goods, we will need:

  • Photo ID – either a passport or driving licence.
  • Proof of your address – a utility bill or bank statement from the last three months. (For alternative options – see full list of acceptable personal identification)
  • Your first month's rent in advance.
  • Your credit or debit card details.
  • Proof of goods cover – Either by taking with us or providing a copy of your cover detailing your goods are covered in storage, dates covered, amount to be covered.
  • A Padlock – You will require a padlock to secure your storage room. Our padlocks are available to buy in store and are the most secure with a shackle of either hardened steel or brass and are guaranteed to fit our doors. If you are using your own, please check with the store that it is suitable for use.

Dependant on availability you can book a room up to 2 months in advance. Charges only start from the day that you move in.

Don't worry if your plans change, you can amend or cancel your reservation at any time. Just give us a call on 01942 94 50 51 to discuss your requirements.

Yes, you can cancel at any time and if you've paid a reservation deposit that will be refunded in full.

Not a problem. Dependant on availability we will move you into a more suited room. We have over 15 sizes so I’m sure we’ll find one that suits your needs.

You can transport your goods over time making as many trips as you need. Alternatively, we have agreed preferential discounted removal rates with a highly recommended local removal services and can pass on their details.

Yes. Once you have placed your goods in your room you will need to secure it with your own lock. Only you or anyone you have given authority to can access your goods.

Of course, we have agreed discounted removal rates with a highly recommended removal service we can arrange this for you or pass you their details. We can also recommend a local van hire company. For further information please contact us.

Moving Out

Even though we would love you to stay forever, we make it as simple and easy as moving in. Just let us know in writing that you’re leaving and we’ll close your account, if you’ve paid ahead of the notice period we’ll refund you any unused days.

We do require notice before you vacate your unit. If, for any reason you are unable to give this notice, don’t worry, you can still move your goods out, however, you will be charged the notice period.

Payment

We advertise weekly prices so you can easily see how competitive we are. We invoice in advance on a monthly basis.

At some stores a security deposit is taken which is held and refunded at the end of the storage period. Please check with your store.

We accept all major credit and debit cards. Payments are automated and recur each month until you give notice to vacate.

Yes. We do not accept American Express or Diners cards.

Yes, you can do this by logging into your account and paying online. Note: you would need to do this no later than the day before your next bill is due otherwise your payment will be auto processed from the card set up when moving in.

Pricing

Self-storage prices are calculated by location, size and duration. You can get a quote on our website or call to speak to a member of our team. All quotes are valid for 14 days and subject to availability.

All prices quoted are for the storage room only, weekly inclusive of VAT.
The only other thing you will need is cover for your goods whilst in storage, if you would like to take our cover, just call your store with the replacement value of goods and we can quote you our cost.

Refunds

As all payments are taken by credit or debit card and we will refund to the most recent payment.

Refund time frames can vary depending on when your last payment was made and which bank you bank with. Refunds are processed when we have cleared funds, so if you've made a payment in the last few days this may a little longer.

Security

Keeping your possessions safe is the most important job we have!

So we have installed the very latest digital technology meaning you can enter the building using our smart phone App (Pin code and QR code options are available if you prefer). Our security system also has motion, smoke and fire detectors and our HD full colour CCTV covers every single corridor and the whole of the building inside and out is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year! If you set up the Access App you can view this within the App. If not, then call your local store after answering some security questions to verify your identity they will be able to confirm your pin. Please note, only primary access people named on the account are able to access this information.

The system will automatically reset and log you out after a period of inactivity and within 3 hours. If you have forgot to secure your room please return to do so as soon as possible.

At some stores we can offer a lock cutting service. Others you may be required to source a locksmith yourself, please check with your local store. If this service is available at your store we will need to verify your ID before cutting your lock off. There is a £10 charge for lock cutting, or it is free if you buy a new lock from us.

Services

Yes. Our charging points are available for our customer to use and are charged by the kilowatt hour used. Please contact your local store for more information and charges.

No. We do not offer any waste disposal service, all waste/unwanted items must be taken away with you. If items are left on site you will be charged for its removal.

All our rooms come completely empty. At certain stores you can purchase or rent racking or bring your own, note all racking must be freestanding and under no circumstances should any racking or shelves be fixed/hung or attached to the walls.

Yes we can. Small deliveries can be accepted and held in a secure room and must be collected within 7 days of delivery. For larger deliveries, for example pallets of stock, these must be collected and placed in your room the same day.

No. We do not permit the use for anything other than storing goods. Sleeping or attempting to live in your room is strictly prohibited and in breach of the terms and conditions of your contract. Anyone found sleeping in a room will be given notice to vacate.

Yes. We can print or photocopy up to A4 sizes. This service costs £0.20 per copy.

What Can't I Store

You must not store (or allow any other person to store) any of the following in your room:

  • Perishable goods, live animals, living plants.
  • Combustible or flammable substances such as gas, paint, petrol, oil, cleaning solvents or compressed gases.
  • Firearms, Explosives, weapons or ammunition.
  • Chemicals, radioactive materials, biological agents, toxic waste, asbestos or other potentially hazardous substances.
  • Any illegal item or substances or goods illegally obtained such as illicit (counterfeit/smuggled) tobacco or alcohol and unlicensed or unsafe goods.
  • Goods which are environmentally harmful or that are a risk to the property of any person.
  • Currency, deeds and securities.

We always cooperate with the Police and HM Revenue & Customs.

Yes, you can transfer rooms at any time free of charge (subject to availability).

Yes, we have trolleys and pallet trucks available at every store for your use.
